My Date with The City

With Toronto experiencing unusually mild temperatures this winter, I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather on a day off and spend the day out and about in the city with my sister.  What I love about the city is that it is always alive and there is no shortage of ways to keep yourself busy.  Here are some highlights from our date with the City of Toronto:

Kensington Market:

Kensington Market has a retro vibe and is a very unique neighbourhood.  As soon as you step into it, it seems like you have been transported into another world.  Bordered by Spadina, Dundas, Bathurst and College, this community is a great place to window shop and get that thrill from a one of a kind find.  My favourite streets to walk along in Kensington Market are Augusta and Kensington Avenue.  You can find everything from great eateries and cafes, bakeries and cheese emporiums, to shops with handpicked clothing from India and Japan.

Here are just a few of my favourites:

Bubblegum Fashion (47 Kensington Avenue) – This is my absolute favourite shop in Kensington.  Often times I make a trip to Kensington Market specifically to shop in this store.   The owner is very friendly and helpful and has a real eye for fashion.  She purchases a lot of her pieces in Japan and no two are alike.  You will really find an item that no one else will be wearing!

Krepesz Cafe (253 Augusta Ave.) – This cute cafe is owned and staffed by a Hungarian family.  If you need a place to sit, rest your feet and refuel during a day of shopping, this is an ideal place to do so.  Serving hand crafted coffees, loose leaf teas, local beers and a variety of mouth watering crepes, you will unwind in no time!  Everything is made to order, you can even watch your crepe being prepared right before your eyes.  http://www.krepesz.com/

Blue Banana Market (250 Augusta Ave.) – This is a really fun place to shop.  If you are looking for unique and funky goods and gifts, this is the place to go!  Find everything from stationary, home decor, kitchen supplies, to jewellery and clothing.  Check out their webpage for a virtual tour of the store http://www.bluebananamarket.com/

Also worth a look & taste:  Wanda’s Pie In The Sky for some scrumptious pastries and sweets (287 Augusta Ave.) and The Grilled Cheese for some grilled cheese comfort foods (66 Nassau St.).
